The story behind Frogg Dogg
Our Story
Frogg Dogg Promotions began in early 2006, but the thinking behind it started long before there was a company name, a website, or much of a plan for where all of this might eventually lead.
For Nathan Turner, the foundation came from engineering, construction, mathematics, business, and a lifelong tendency to look at a problem and ask a fairly simple question:
There has to be a better way to do this.
Nathan had spent years solving problems in construction businesses where getting something almost right usually wasn't good enough. Engineering teaches you that. So does construction. And, as it turns out, so does the internet.
As websites, search engines and digital advertising began changing how businesses found customers, Nathan became fascinated with what was happening behind the screen.
That curiosity eventually became Frogg Dogg Promotions.
And one of the people who helped sharpen that curiosity was an extraordinary friend named Donnie Fletcher.
An Engineer, a Computer Scientist, and Some Very Late Nights
Don was not exactly your average computer guy.
Educated at MIT and Caltech, with a Ph.D. and a career spanning computer science, software engineering and communications technology, Don eventually served as CTO and software architect at GrandCentral Communications, whose technology became the foundation for Google Voice after GrandCentral was acquired by Google.
He was also an inventor named on multiple U.S. patents.
Those credentials were impressive.
But they aren't what Nathan remembers most.
Don was a friend, mentor, consultant, sounding board and chess opponent. He was also a man who could wear a pair of suspenders with enough conviction to make you wonder whether everyone else had been dressing incorrectly.
And when Nathan and Don started talking about technology, search engines or some problem neither one of them was quite ready to leave alone, the clock became largely irrelevant.
Those conversations could turn into hours of questions, arguments, ideas, laughter and problem solving.
Sometimes it required another pot of coffee, while at other times a good bottle of wine seemed like more the appropriate engineering tool. And some probably should have ended several hours earlier.
Before Anyone Called It AI Visibility
A recurring subject in those conversations was search. Nathan wanted to understand not merely how a website could rank, but how a search engine could determine what a business actually was, what it did, and when that business was relevant to the person sitting on the other side of a computer looking for an answer.
With Don providing a computer scientist's perspective and Nathan approaching the problem from an engineer's and business owner's point of view, the questions became more interesting.
It wasn't simply: How do we get a website found?
It became: How does a machine understand what a business actually does?
At the time, neither of them could have known quite where that question was headed.
Today we talk about structured data, entities, machine-readable information, artificial intelligence, answer engines and AI visibility.
Back then, it was mostly two guys staying up far too late trying to figure out where technology was going next.
From Those Conversations to Frogg Dogg
Frogg Dogg Promotions was established in 2006 around a principle Nathan still believes today:
Technology should serve the business. The business shouldn't serve the technology.
The tools have changed considerably since then.
Websites changed. Google changed. Digital advertising changed. Social media arrived. Smartphones changed the way customers search. And now artificial intelligence is changing how people discover, understand and evaluate businesses once again.
But the underlying approach hasn't changed much at all.
Understand the business.
Understand the customer.
Understand the technology connecting the two.
Then build something that works.
That philosophy has carried Frogg Dogg from traditional website development and search marketing into SEO, paid advertising, branding, business strategy and today's emerging world of AI visibility.

Don Would Have Enjoyed This Part
Nathan lost a dear friend, but the questions and conversations they shared never really disappeared.
And there is a certain irony in where technology has gone since.
Machines now read websites, interpret language, recognize relationships between companies and people, answer complicated questions, write computer code and carry on conversations that would have sounded like science fiction during some of those late-night sessions.
Nathan is fairly certain Don would have gotten a tremendous kick out of all of this.
He probably would have wanted to know exactly how it worked.
Then he would have questioned half of the explanation.
And somewhere around midnight, the coffee would have started again.
Still Asking the Same Question
Nearly two decades after Frogg Dogg began, Nathan still approaches digital marketing much the way he approached engineering problems years ago.
Understand the system first.
Figure out what actually matters.
Don't make something complicated merely because you can.
And when conventional thinking doesn't quite make sense, ask the question that has followed Frogg Dogg from the beginning:
There has to be a better way to do this.
Usually, there is.
That's part of the reason Frogg Dogg is still here looking for it.
Be Found. Be Understood. Be Trusted. Be Chosen.
